    What Is a Wrist Arthroscopy?

    The wrist is a small but complex joint. Problems with the wrist joint can cause pain, numbness, and a loss of motion in the hand and fingers. In order to diagnose or treat a wrist problem, your orthopaedic surgeon may suggest a wrist arthroscopy procedure. During wrist arthroscopy, your surgeon will insert a small, flexible instrument called an arthroscope into an incision in your arm. The arthroscope provides images and magnification that allow your surgeon to analyze the inside of the joint and diagnose or correct problems that cause pain and immobility. Arthroscopy provides a better image of the joint than other options, such as x-rays or MRIs. The use of wrist arthroscopy is an alternative to open wrist surgery, which utilizes much larger cuts and requires additional recovery time.

    Concussions

    Concussions are injuries to the brain that often arise following blows or falls during sports. Proper care and rest are needed to allow the brain to recover before returning to any sports activity. Symptoms of a concussion include headache, confusion, dizziness, nausea, slurred speech, and fatigue. A concussion may not necessarily cause loss of consciousness. These symptoms may occur immediately following the injury, or appear hours or days after the incident. 

    Sprains and Strains

    Sprains and strains affect the muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support and move the joints. These injuries are common in activities such as running, tennis, gymnastics, and soccer. A sprain or strain causes pain and swelling that can be alleviated with ice, medication, and rest. A bad injury or recurring set of injuries may benefit from physical therapy to increase range of motion and strength in the joints.

    Knee Injuries

    Knee injuries can occur either following acute trauma or develop as an overuse injury over time. Inflammation of the tissues surrounding the knee can cause stiffness and pain when taking part in sports activities.
