MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, produces amazingly clear and detailed images of the body. Unlike X-ray and CT scans, which use X-rays, the MRI uses a magnetic field to produce images.
The MRI system aligns the nuclei of hydrogen atoms with a magnetic field. It then emits a radio wave and records the resonation response of these protons to the radio wave. Damaged tissue gives off different signals than the surrounding, healthy tissue, allowing the technician and doctor to easily diagnose medical problems.
